Me

MARK SAUNDERS brought many things along with him in the abandonment of his tiny prairie home town in southwestern Manitoba. He attributes his raw, edgey sound, aggressive style, and a certain affinity for leggy brunettes due mainly to his early love of 50's, 60's and late 70's heavy metal, rock 'n roll and surf tunes.

His influences include everything from Buddy Holly to Black Sabbath, and Scott Joplin is filed right next to Janis. Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, John Fogarty and Iron Maiden all had profound effects. With his early days spent in electric top 40 (million) bar-circuit type bands, Mark moved on to a folkie-acoustic style mostly out of necessity to make a living - popping up on street corners, diners, and coffeehouses around North America, wherever and whenever the daily economic crisis of food, fuel and booze began to choke and strangle.

"With 'SPARE CHANGE', my debut album, I tried to capture a period in my life in which I was pretty introspective, busy learning how grim things actually are, and trying to project this glorious message to everybody else", he says. Written mainly behind the wheel at the age of 19, 'SPARE CHANGE' is a definite stepping stone for things higher up.

Well that's it. Raw guitar and harp. Play it loud on a cheap system and enjoy this first offering over a mighty cuppa tea. There will be more...
