A hitherto unknown name until meeting 'The Landlord's Daughter', Anne Beverly Brown is a major discovery. The lilting strains of the semi-autobiographical 'Days of England' conjures up a meeting of Dar Williams and Sandy Denny vocally and lyrically. She is a gifted wordsmith with a wide range of topics at her disposal, such as travels through Australia on 'Red Dust', 'I Threw The I Ching Tonight', and the love song 'King David'. Alfred Noyes' poem - The Highwayman, is the sole exception to this otherwise self-penned collection. Steafan Hannigan's pipes add a ghostly etherial touch to 'Angel Walking'. This Canadian songstress has produced a work of immense beauty which begs to be heard ASAP.

Folk Roots Magazine, England included Anne Beverly Browns' 'The Landlord's Daughter` under the definitive selection of THE ALBUMS OF '97.
The second full-length independent release from this Alberta-based songwriter is a well-produced, good-sounding collection of songs. Produced and recorded at home with Brown's husband, David Cebuliak, 'The Landlord's Daughter' feels rooted and folky, with acoustic arrangements, and a narrative songwriting style. The themes of Brown's songs are inspired by travel, youth, nostalgia, family and good old-fashioned love.
A homeschooling mother of two, Brown is "trying an alternative approach" to marketing her music. She says, "I do not wish to tour constantly to promote myself, due to family and a desire for a more balanced lifestyle than I'm sure touring could provide .... In this age of technology, surely my music can take the trip without me having to leave the farm." With a host of talented supporting musicians, and a professionally packaged and presented CD, I'm sure this music can indeed "make the trip."

The Celtic flavored SSW album in CANADA. The clear sound supported by harp, piano and flute wear the clear and sophisticated atmosphere but melody line sung in beautiful voice is sweet and nostalgic. The Exquisite blend of country and Celtic music is unique and make the listeners comfortable. The songs remind me of the best era of Dougie McLean. Especially, 13-minutes track 'The Highwayman' is brilliant! Worth long listening album.

Canadian singer/songwriter Anne Beverly Brown has created on her second album a spellbinding collection of songs that merge poetic lyrics with beautiful music, offering a lush, romantic tapestry of folk-inspired songs. The arrangements are splendid examples of focused melody with supporting instruments utilized with well-thought out economy. The spiritual centerpiece of this recording is an interpretation of the Alfred Noyes' poem 'The Highwayman,' a colorful but grim romance that provides the inspiration for the albums' title. The tale reminds one of the best of the English folk tradition with the heroine giving her life for her love, but of course in vain as the highwayman meets his demise. The interplay between harp, guitar and violin is as engaging as the lyrics and the throbbing bassline by Diane Couch is particularly fascinating, especially in this style of song. The remaining eight songs are equally arresting and well-performed, from the instrumental piece 'Yellowknife,' an aural painting for guitar, flute and accordion with Enya-like vocals, to the moving 'King David,' a song of strength and courage. Most effective were the brief impressionistic pieces like 'Ask Me No More` and the lovely 'Angel Walking` with atmospheric uillean pipes by Steafan Hannigan. Myran Szott's violin work caught my attention quite often as did the accordion passages of Ron Casat. Brown's fine vocals do justice to her equally fine songwriting. Her soaring, inspirational poetry combined with Celtic-influenced music make 'The Landlord's Daughter` a must.
