Dual layer DVD+R has become an important milestone in recordable DVD technology. As always, Canada Disc & Tape strives to provide our clients with duplication services in the latest formats. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that we have upgraded our equipment to enable duplication onto 8.5 GB DVD+R DL discs.

When the dual layer DVD+R format was first introduced, our DVD department (www.dvdmasters.com) immediately installed the new drives so that we could provide our clients with "check discs" of DVD-9 masters. Now that duplication systems are available, it has become much more economical to do multiple copies onto DVD+R DL discs.

Our clients can now benefit from the additional storage capacity of dual layer media and record up to 4 hours of DVD-quality video without the need to turn over the disc. Prior to the introduction of this format, it was only possible to duplicate 4.7GB of information onto one side of a DVD-R or DVD+R disc.

Although double sided DVD recordable media has been available for some time, it only allows for 4.7 GB of storage per side so it is best suited for duplicating a DVD-10. It is far more convenient to use the dual layer discs since they conform to the storage capacities of replicated DVD-9 discs which are more common.
