Marthie Nel

Congratulations to Marthie Nel, the winner of our draw at the 2004 WCMA Awards to have 500 CDs replicated for free courtesy of Canada Disc & Tape Inc. The prize includes printing of CD covers, tray cards, pre-press services, film charges and shipping to her home in Regina! According to her website at: www.marthienel.com, Marthie is a "South African woman in Saskatchewan living the Canadian dream" and we're glad she's here!

She has performed at the National Arts festival in Oudshoorn, South Africa before recording a CD called “Stoot die blêddie bus” about the experiences she had in her travels to England. Earlier this year, she also released a children’s gospel CD in South Africa as part of the Kingfisher outreach drive. For this project she wrote eight songs and recorded the lead vocal in Canada in her home studio: the best part being 36 weeks pregnant at the time!

Since arriving in Canada, she has been profiled as “Saskatchewan’s Artist of the Week" on CJTR - 91.3 FM Radio and has received airplay on CBC Radio One as well as on several online stations. Marthie's music has also been included on several compilation CDs including Saskatchewan Tourism’s “Land of the Living Skies” which has been distributed throughout Canada. With the pending release of her next CD, we're sure you will be hearing a lot more from Marthie in the very near future!

Another person you’ll be hearing more about in the future is our very own Smita Acharyya who produced the award winning Superhero Wannabe. Directed by Patricia Harris Seeley, this short film won top prize at this year’s Seven Minute Film Festival beating out many international entries. It has aired recently on Bravo and can be seen online.
